Rivanna River Basin Project (1998)

The Rivanna River Basin Project was initiated in 1996 by the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC) to assess past and current conditions of the Rivanna River and its tributaries, to gather information that could be used to maintain and improve water quality, and to provide this information to citizens and decision makers within the region. The project was guided by a 24-member Rivanna River Roundtable consisting of stakeholders from all parts of the Rivanna Watershed, who represented all the political jurisdictions and a variety of interests, and included farmers, developers, designers, environmentalists, educators, scientists, preservationists, historians, and authors. The project, including studies and recommendations, is documented by the State of the Basin Report (1998).

StreamWatch Reports

StreamWatch, the community based stream stream monitoring program for the Rivanna, has published several reports documenting the health of the Rivanna (Stream Condition Reports) based on biological monitoring. In addition, StreamWatch undertakes studies that correlate stream health and land use factors (such as impervious surfaces).
