'No Brainer': Harvesting story prompts rain to Kaine, The Hook, August 8, 2009

As the Hook recently reported, a county laundromat owner stepped into a bureaucratic quagmire when he tried to install a rainwater harvesting system last year. Now a slew of environmental groups, political leaders, and business owners have stepped into the fray, firing off a letter to Gov. Tim Kaine this week asking that guidelines for the practice be “expeditiously developed” ... The new chairman of the Rivanna River Basin Commission says he has big plans to fix up Central Virginia's waterways.  Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors Chairman Marvin Moss will also chair the commission. Grant Targets Runoff from Stormwater, Daily Progress, June 2, 2009

A new $725,000 grant aims to reduce polluted stormwater runoff flowing into the Rivanna River and the Chesapeake Bay from Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna and Greene.  The Chesapeake Bay Program and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation awarded the grant to the Rivanna River Basin Commission. The Rivanna River Basin Commission provides guidance for the stewardship of water and natural resources of the Rivanna River Basin and promotes activities by local, state, and federal governments, and by individuals, that foster resource stewardship for the environmental and economic health of the Basin.
