Thomas Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District (TJSWCD)

TJSWCD Board of Directors: The TJSWCD serves the Virginia counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Louisa and Nelson, as well as the City of Charlottesville. It is a self-governed subdivision of State government.  The Board of Directors is made up of unpaid, locally elected citizens who set priorities and guide the activities and programs of the District.

TJSWCD Erosion and Sediment Control Program: Provides technical assistance to county officials in the implementation of local Erosion and Sediment Control Programs; offers guidance to developers in preparing erosion and sediment control plans which meet State criteria; and provides technical assistance to property owners with drainage or conservation problems.

TJSWCD Stormwater Management Program: Works to minimize the impact of development on area waterways by providing technical assistance to localities.

TJSWCD Agricultural Program: Works with landowners to guide them to the most appropriate funding programs to meet their conservation needs; Administers funding for BMP and CREP programs.

TJSWCD Easement Program: Protects water resources, including riparian forest buffers, critical slopes, springs, wetlands, and groundwater recharge areas.

TJSWCD Education Program: Provides scholarships for students for education and camp attendance; makes educational presentations to school groups; sponsors field days, demonstrations, and technical workshops; sponsors Envirothon for high school students; publishes community newsletter with up-to-date conservation information; distributes educational information.

TJSWCD Special Projects: Rainwater Harvesting, Septic System Replacement, Hardware River Project.

OUR PURPOSE

The Rivanna River Basin Commission provides guidance for the stewardship of water and natural resources of the Rivanna River Basin and promotes activities by local, state, and federal governments, and by individuals, that foster resource stewardship for the environmental and economic health of the Basin.
